Sunday Night Football
Indianapolis @ San Francisco
Team Totals: 49ers 24.5, Colts 20
UPDATE: Moderately severe weather conditions are in the forecast for Sunday night’s Colts-49ers affair to the extent that passing games on each side could be affected. As of Thursday evening, meteorologists were calling for an 80% chance of rain and winds in the 15-18 MPH range.
Quietly playing excellent ball lately, Carson Wentz faces the 49ers averaging 9.8 yards per attempt with a 6:0 TD-to-INT ratio over his last three games, while the health of Indianapolis’ ultra-talented offensive line is improving. All-World LG Quenton Nelson (ankle) returned to practice this week, and RT Braden Smith (foot/thumb) is on the way. Few metrics support this as an especially attractive matchup for Wentz — San Francisco ranks a dead-middle 16th in fantasy QB points allowed — yet Wentz’s recent high-level performance places him on the QB1/2 fringe in a depleted fantasy week. … As a bettor on Indy to cover the 4.5-point spread at San Francisco, I’m correspondingly wagering on Jonathan Taylor to impose his will on 49ers DC DeMeco Ryans’ defense. The Colts’ O-Line is coming together, and over his last three games Taylor is averaging 147.0 total yards and 1.7 TDs. Nyheim Hines’ role has been minimized.
