New Orleans @ Atlanta
Team Totals: Saints 24, Falcons 18.5
Jameis Winston’s recovery from last Week 8’s ACL tear progressed without a hitch after he banked career highs in TD Rate (8.7%), adjusted yards per attempt (8.2), and passer rating (102.8) in his first season as the Saints’ starter. Outgoing HC Sean Payton did confine Jameis to a game-manager role in which Winston topped 30 pass attempts just once in seven starts. Jameis’ wideout corps was upgraded by Chris Olave and Jarvis Landry’s acquisitions plus Michael Thomas’ return, while last year’s Falcons permitted the league’s sixth-most fantasy quarterback points. I’m treating Winston as an upside two-QB-league play and DFS sleeper at Atlanta. … Alvin Kamara’s PPR projection is diminished by Winston’s anti-checkdown approach, although Kamara remains New Orleans’ offensive centerpiece. In last year’s two meetings with Falcons DC Dean Pees’ defense, Kamara banked a combined 266 total yards. Only eight defenses allowed more fantasy running back points than the Falcons. This year, Kamara won’t have to contend with sideline-to-sideline MLB Deion Jones (shoulder), who begins the season on I.R. … Nearing age 33, Mark Ingram figures to wear down as the season progresses but should have fresh legs out of the gate and factor into short-yardage situations. He’s probably a touchdown-reliant low-end RB3/flex.
