For the final time this year, it will be major season for us ETR Golf subscribers and coordinators, and I could not be more excited. For those of you keeping up with the contributor contest between myself and Sky, I am down ~$100 to Sky right now, but it truly is in a dead heat. The good news is, we’re both up almost $5K each in the SE Long Drive since we began this competition, so at the very least you know we’re not total idiots when it comes to this DFS thing (yet). Major weeks always bring pretty high-end contests across the board, so this could be a pretty big week where one of us can separate in a big way. If anyone does, it would of course be me. Sky is too busy dealing with a crying 5-month-old in an RV to make a good lineup. He might not even have WiFi wherever he is! Enough about us, though, and back to DFS golf, which is what you all pay me to write about. Let’s take a look at the Scottish Open first before moving on to the final major of the year.

Scottish Open – Recap

This was not a good week for me in classic or R4, unfortunately. Personally, I wanted to be underweight on Robert MacIntyre, despite how well he’s been playing. I just figured the “home country” narrative would be overplayed, especially with the strength of the players around his price point. That obviously came back to bite me, as he clutched up to come back from two down with three holes left to win on a 22-foot birdie putt. Sometimes you just have to tip your cap to the people that knew. Let’s take a look at the winning lineup in the lotto.

  • The winning lineup was a pretty cool construction, with Collin Morikawa up top at $10K, but it totally skipped the $11K and $9K ranges. The roster construction was a 10/8/8/8/7/7 setup, despite great options with Rory and Xander up top and a pretty decent $6K range to get up to them. This lineup actually absolutely destroyed the contest, beating the second-place entry by a whopping 24 points. This is a fantastic example of the leverage you can gain with different types of lineups.
  • It featured a cumulative ownership of 84.3%, again illustrating the point of why lineup ownership as a whole is way more important than specific player ownership. When you can combine the two and apply player concepts to your player pool while also following intelligent roster construction strategies, you can really separate yourself from the field. This lineup only had one player below 5%, with the rest at 10+%. There are of course many different ways to win in DFS, but I strongly believe creating these smaller edges separates the best DFS players from the field.

As I mentioned, it wasn’t the best week for me, but I can boil that down to some incorrect player takes that I had, specifically BobMac and Morikawa. We will forget this week and move on to THE Open. Of course, I cannot move on without mentioning that I still had a fantastic week because I met a couple of Discord legends — Discord judge THE Kyle and discord gossip king cantfademe. No matter what my ROI was on the week, I’m still winning at life. Shout-out to both those guys for meeting up with me — great dudes, even if fade still didn’t get me the appropriate CSVs.
