Atlanta Hawks at Indiana Pacers
Team Totals: Hawks 108.5, Pacers 110
Injury Report: Bogdan Bogdanovic (O, ankle), Cam Reddish (Q, wrist), Justin Holiday (O, protocols), Myles Turner (Q, illness)
Hawks projected starters: Trae Young, Kevin Huerter, Solomon Hill, John Collins, Clint Capela
Pacers projected starters: Malcolm Brogdon, Caris LeVert, Chris Duarte, Domantas Sabonis, Myles Turner
McMillan quotes: Said the Knicks’ second unit killed them, said they had tired legs against the Knicks (B2B game).
Carlisle quotes: Said he was happy with how his team played in a B2B against the Wolves but just not enough went their way, talked about Duarte picking up a tech and not much else.
Stats and Notes:
*This one won’t be playing fast, and both of these defenses have been pretty solid. The Pacers are also very good at limiting 3-pointers, which makes some of the non-Trae wings a bit risky. The Hawks’ defense was really starting to click, but we’ll see how they adapt to no Bogdan. You’d think they’re still very good now that Capela has his slow start behind him.
*Not having Justin Holiday is a small win for Trae Young, who is just smashing right now. He did have some friendly matchups in the four games with 30-plus points, but the Hawks are getting extremely thin these days. It’s a decent matchup for him here with Holiday out and the Pacers protecting the perimeter.
*If Cam Reddish can’t go, Kevin Huerter may have to play a silly amount of minutes here to put him in play. If Myles Turner can’t go, that could really set up Clint Capela. We’ve seen Domantas Sabonis struggle on the defensive end and the Hawks would really be leaning into the Trae-Capela PNR.
*Even in a bad matchup against Capela, Sabonis would be in play without Myles Turner. We just saw that 25-board game against the horrible rebounding of the Wolves, but this would still be an attractive spot with strong splits as the lone PF/C.
*The loss of Justin Holiday should really up the minutes for Chris Duarte as the likely starter. Plus, the Pacers would not be able to run a small-ball lineup without Myles Turner, so I’d expect either Torrey Craig or maybe even Oshae Brissett to draft the start against John Collins. No Turner would also really help out Collins with the way the Hawks have attacked smaller PFs with Collins action.
