Lakers projected starters: Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, Marcus Smart, Rui Hachimura, Deandre Ayton

Hornets projected starters: Collin Sexton, Kon Knueppel, Sion James, Miles Bridges, Ryan Kalkbrenner

Redick quotes: Said they just didn’t have it and the Hawks brought energy/physicality, said he saw “nothing” in the first few minutes of the game.

Lee quotes: Said it was a great learning experience to start so badly against the Heat and get right back into it in the second quarter, said Kon just wants to make big plays, said Kalkbrenner is “a dual threat” for them.

Stats and Notes:

*The Lakers finally lost their momentum, as the Hawks stomped them on Saturday. The Lakers have been coasting on efficiency with their offense at third in the halfcourt, but they are running in the halfcourt more than anyone at 83.3% of possessions. They are just running PNR over and over, and lead the league in points and PPP on PNR handler plays. The Hornets have been a solid PNR handler defense, but they are 29th in halfcourt defense because of teams destroying them at the basket. They don’t give up too much on C&S, and the Lakers don’t take them anyway at 19.9 per game for the lowest mark in the league. It sets up great for the Lakers. For the Hornets on offense, they’re actually running more PNR plays than the Lakers, and that didn’t change much even with LaMelo Ball out of the lineup. The Lakers have been more aggressive with putting two on the ball lately to rank fourth in PNR handler points allowed, and they were playing great transition defense before this weekend (it’s plummeted in the last two). There are a lot of ways the Hornets can produce on offense here.

Great matchups: Deandre Ayton, Collin Sexton

Good matchups: Kon Knueppel, Miles Bridges, Luka Doncic

Bad matchups: Nobody
