Sign me up for THE PLAYERS Championship every single week! The tournament is everything we can ask for from the course, to the field strength, to the wind, and the fear of trouble on every single hole. Rory McIlroy was a well-deserved champion, dominating in a way we don’t typically see from him, which was without using his power to separate from the field. He did body-bag J.J. Spaun on the first drive of the playoff, but it was done through his approach game and putter. The leaderboard was full of unique stories and players with all sorts of skill sets, which always can lead to an interesting week of DFS. 6/6 rates were incredibly low, with a lot of chalk burning out. And it definitely will be something we continue to see at TPC Sawgrass. Especially with DraftKings offering up multiple million dollar prizes, I’m counting down the days to the next PLAYERS Championship.
Now, the one unpleasant thing about THE PLAYERS Championship was the hit to the pocketbook. Unfortunately, the Value Report did not deliver with many returns at all with only one golfer finishing inside the top 20. That was Max McGreevy, who was very impressive all week long. Isaiah Salinda was right in the thick of it heading into the weekend too, and did score plenty of DraftKings points along the way. Austin Eckroat was mediocre at best, which left a majority of this group in the same position as chalk Michael Kim. It was rare to have a value get as high owned as Kim did, so having an underweight position really was strong leverage. But that only goes as far as who you replace him in your lineup with. Laurie Canter was as bad on Friday as he was good on Thursday, which was the exact same story for Karl Vilips, too. Then Brian Campbell and Nick Taylor struggled hard. Once again, we were on the withdrawal train — this time for Victor Perez. This has hit at a rapid clip in 2025, and let’s hope we can start running better on these post-lock injuries.
Closing out the Florida swing in style, last up is the Valspar Championship in Tampa. It’s still a decently strong event with JT and Xander leading the salaries at $10,800 and $10,500. We are capped again at a $6,000 floor, which is much more aligned with zero players priced in the typical Scottie and Rory ranges. That means we are back to the weeks we have typically seen in weaker fields, which should produce more balanced structures and leave us plenty of low-owned values at the bottom. Wind will be whipping too, so let’s lock in for a big bounce back!
