Whew, what a year for Wyndham Clark, who backs up the cockiness once again by taking down the best golfers in the world. His Sunday was quite theatrical too, so to have the poise deep in the round to settle the ship and find three birdies in a row to close was diabolical. As a fader last week and quite a bit this year, it was another tough pill to swallow, but at some point, you just have to keep tipping your cap. His ownership wasn’t actually outrageous, either; just 15% in the flagship, despite being the most tipped golfer of the week in the betting world. The approach to Bellerive last week with a more driving-heavy strategy was absolutely the correct angle. And as much as we pumped the brakes on overarching course fit because of the old data, it was interesting how ownership played out. Despite just 50 golfers, the field leveled itself a good bit, with only Scottie Scheffler separating into the high 20s, so it could’ve been a week to play it just a bit tighter to projections instead of IKBing as much as I did.

Cover boy Gary Woodland had an epic opening nine in St. Louis and set the pace for most of the event for the entire value range. He wound up with the sixth-highest score on the slate and was in just about every one of the winning lineups across DraftKings. Outside of him, though, it was a slew of mediocre results. Sepp Straka was decent enough that, at his price, he could’ve found his way into the right build to be an important piece, but the higher-salaried Rickie Fowler and Justin Rose struggled to really get going. Rose was the one who worried me the most ownership-wise, so I was quite surprised that he was lower than Gary, and that was even more of a split in projections-heavy contests. And then Ryan Fox brought up the rear, which just may be the way he treats the rest of 2026. A major championship at this point in his career could just be enough to hang your hat on for a great while.
