This week brings the annual trek from some of the finest links golf in the world to the 3M Open. The 3M was introduced to the PGA Tour schedule in 2019 and has been held at TPC Twin Cities every year since, making 2025 the seventh edition of the event. Given its spot on the calendar, and relatively low purse by today’s standards, the 3M typically sports one of the worst fields we’ll see all year for a traditional PGA Tour event. This year has attracted a marginally better field from top to bottom but is lacking star power, as none of the world’s top 15 players will make an appearance this week, setting up for a wide-open golf tournament — which we don’t often see on the PGA Tour these days.

The Course:

TPC Twin Cities is an Arnold Palmer-designed layout, playing 7,430 yards to a par 71 with three par 5s, 11 par 4s, and four par 3s. It features bentgrass tees, fairways, and greens, while the rough is a bluegrass/fescue mix. The layout is defined by water hazards across the property. 15 of the 18 holes have some sort of water in play, and the penalty rate, or the number of penalty strokes per round, is consistently in the top five on the PGA Tour as a result. Despite the abundance of hazards, TPC Twin Cities is among the easier courses on Tour. Even with historically weak fields, scoring averages have been close to -1 each day and the winner has finished between -15 and -24 the last six years. The only changes to the course this year were some sand additions to bunkers, so we should expect to see more of the same.
