The playoffs roll on, as the top 50 in the FedEx Cup head to Caves Valley Golf Club for the BMW Championship. It goes without saying that the field this week, while small, is elite. High-quality players in some of their best form all year should make for a strong leaderboard come Sunday afternoon.
The Course:
Caves Valley Golf Club is set to play host to the BMW for the second time, and the first since the 2021 season. A Tom Fazio design, Caves Valley features bentgrass greens and fairways with a fescue/rye/bluegrass blend in the rough. While not a total unknown, I would be remiss to suggest that we can draw strong conclusions from a single event’s worth of data that took place four years ago. The last time Caves Valley hosted, the course played as a 7,540-yard par 72, and one of the easiest in modern PGA Tour history. Patrick Cantlay took down Bryson DeChambeau in a six-hole playoff after they finished regulation tied at -27, and the field scoring average for the week was almost three strokes under par across four rounds of golf. Every strokes gained category profiled as ‘easier to gain’ than an average course, and the top of the leaderboard was littered with guys who drove it well and made a ton of putts.
