The final week of the PGA Tour regular season is upon us, as the Tour heads back to Sedgefield Country Club for the 18th consecutive year to play the Wyndham Championship. The Wyndham has been the last regular-season event for nearly 20 years, and with the FedEx cup changes in recent years, more of the top-end players are forced to show up, in need of both FedEx Cup points and Ryder Cup points. So, while the field lacks star power, it’s much stronger than in recent years, featuring five of the top 25 in the OWGR and 22 of the top 50.
The Course:
Sedgefield Country Club is a classic Donald Ross designed in 1927. It now features Bermuda grass from tee to green and plays as a 7,131-yard par 70 with two par 5s and four par 3s. The greens are relatively small by Tour standards at 6,000 square feet, and they are incredibly undulating. Should players end up in the wrong spots, they’ll often struggle to get down in less than three putts, and there will probably be at least one or two highlights of balls being putt off a false front throughout the week. That said, Sedgefield is not a challenging golf course. Over the last five years, the winner has been between 15 and 21 under par, and scoring averages have been -1.2 strokes per round. With no listed changes to the golf course and a strong field, we should expect to see something around 20 under par once again in 2025.
