New England @ Kansas City
Team Totals: Chiefs 30.25, Patriots 23.25
Visiting Arrowhead to face a Chiefs team playing on a short week following last Monday night’s two-TD win at Baltimore, the Patriots’ Week 4 game plan should be crystal clear. Behind its power-running QB, lane-clearing line, and deep tailback corps, New England figures to look to impose its will, dominate time of possession, and keep Patrick Mahomes off the field. If executed, such an approach would favor Cam Newton after Kansas City hemorrhaged the league’s sixth most rushing yards (459), fifth highest yards per carry (5.3), and sixth most first-down runs (29) in Weeks 1-3. Only one NFL defense has given up more QB rushing yards than K.C. … James White (personal) and Damien Harris’ (pinkie surgery) possible returns throw forward-thinking cold water on last week’s big Rex Burkhead and Sony Michel’s games in a backfield that also heavily involves Newton and Week 3 rushing attempts leader J.J. Taylor. Even in a favorable matchup, Patriots running backs are thin fantasy plays based on non-bankable weekly usage.
