Thursday Night Football

Minnesota @ L.A. Chargers

Team Totals: Chargers 23.5, Vikings 20.5

Carson Wentz will make at least one more start with J.J. McCarthy (ankle) still on the shelf after delivering fantasy finishes of QB13 (vs. CIN), QB9 (@ PIT), QB23 (@ CLE), and QB18 (vs. PHI) in Weeks 3-7. Wentz’s play is trending downward, while the Chargers’ defense has held opponents to the NFL’s fifth-lowest completion rate (61.5%), sixth-fewest yards per pass attempt (6.5), and third-lowest passer rating (79.8). Wentz is only a two-quarterback-league option here. … Aaron Jones (hamstring, I.R.) apparently has a chance to make his first appearance since Week 2 but may return to a change-of-pace role initially. Built to handle hefty workloads, 223-pound Jordan Mason is averaging a crisp 4.5 yards per carry and played a season-high 77% of Minnesota’s offensive snaps in last Sunday’s loss to Philadelphia. The Bolts can be pushed around in the trenches, having conceded 5.1 yards per carry and the NFL’s second-most rushing touchdowns (8) to running backs. Whereas this would be a wait-and-see week for Jones, I’m firing up Mason as a confident RB2 play.
