Saturday Football
4:30 PM ET Game
L.A. Rams @ Carolina
Team Totals: Rams 28.5, Panthers 18
Note: These teams squared off in Week 13, resulting in a Panthers upset fueled by three Matthew Stafford turnovers, including a 48-yard pick-six by Panthers CB Mike Jackson. Bryce Young also delivered two deep touchdowns on fourth-down plays. I don’t put much predictive stock in that game, but it’s at least worth noting ahead of Saturday’s rematch.
The Rams visit Carolina as easily Week 19’s biggest favorite and with easily the Wild Card Round’s largest team total. A vise-grip lock for NFL MVP, Matthew Stafford led the league in passing yards (4,707), 20+ yard completions (72), and passing TDs (46) — by a margin of 12 over runner-up Jared Goff (34). Stafford’s 23 sacks taken were his fewest in a full or near-full season since 2013. And he is getting back league receiving touchdowns leader Davante Adams (14) from a three-week hamstring absence. The Panthers played above-average pass defense this regular season — DC Ejiro Evero’s unit allowed the NFL’s 11th-lowest passer rating (88.2) — but the Rams can play matchup-proof passing offense at full strength, and they are awfully close to full strength here.
