Jump to Quarterback, Running Back, Wide Receiver, Tight End positions.

Head Coach

HC June Jones
Has operated the extremely pass-centric run-n-shoot everywhere he’s been. Most recently at Hawaii (1999-07), SMU (2008-14) and the CFL’s Tiger-Cats (2017-18).

Offensive Coordinator

OC Chris Miller
Knows June Jones as they overlapped with the Falcons, where Chris Miller played from 1987-93.

Quarterback

QB1 Phillip Walker
Started 40 games for Temple from 2014-16. Went undrafted in 2017. Over last two preseasons with Colts, has gone 62-of-113 (54.8%) for 795 yards with 4 TDs and 4 INTs. Beat out Connor Cook for Week 1 starting gig. Through five XFL games, the Roughnecks have passed on 65.8% of their plays. Walker is the league’s MVP so far.
QB2 Connor Cook
Lost a tight camp battle to Walker. Threw 70 TD passes for Michigan State from 2013-15. Flamed out quickly after Raiders took him in fourth round of 2016 NFL Draft.
QB3 Marcus McDade
Added with roster expansions on March 9th.

Running Back

RB1 James Butler
Got extended run for Oakland Raiders last preseason, managing a meager 48-134-1 on the ground but adding 10-79-0 through the air. With De’Angelo Henderson (shoulder) out since Week 2, Butler has led a rotation with Andre Williams. Has handled some kick return duties. DNP in practice (foot) on Tuesday, upgraded to limited on Wednesday for Week 6.
RB2 Andre Williams
Selected 9th round, 66th overall in XFL Draft. Big (6’0/220) plodding runner who averaged just 3.3 YPC on 332 NFL carries and caught just 19 balls. Not a fit in this run-n-shoot offense. Just three targets through five games.
RB3 De’Angelo Henderson
2017 sixth-round pick of the Broncos. Goes just 5’7/208 but has far more juice than Williams. Only played two snaps in Week 1 before leaving with shoulder injury. Been inactive Weeks 2-5. Briefly practiced as a limited participant (shoulder) in Week 5 but ultimately ruled OUT. Limited in practice on Tuesday and Wednesday for Week 6.
RB4 Marquez Williams
Added on Feb. 12.

Wide Receiver

WR1 Cam Phillips
Selected 6th round, 47th overall in XFL Draft. Highly productive at Virginia Tech from 2014-17, catching 236 passes in 49 games. Locked in as the top dog in this high-powered pass game, playing on league-high 97.8% of snaps through four weeks. Massive 24.3% target share on the league’s best passing offense. DNP in practice (knee) on Wednesday for Week 6.
WR2 Kahlil Lewis
Selected 2nd round, 15th overall in XFL Draft. Stands 6’0/195, caught 165 passes over final three seasons at Cincinnati. Only played on 43-of-75 snaps in Week 5 as he battled groin issue, but still saw five targets for a 13.1% share. Not on injury report ahead of Week 6.
WR3 Nick Holley
Selected 10th round, 79th overall in XFL Draft. Holley played WR, RB and even some QB at Kent State from 2013-17. Stands 5’10/195. Is the other slot next to Kahlil Lewis. Has 28 targets through five games for a 15.1% share.
WR4 Sam Mobley
During Weeks 3 and 4, Mobley was moving ahead of Sammie Coates as the primary outside receiver opposite Cam Phillips. When Coates (hamstring) missed Week 5, Mobley played on 75-of-75 and was second on the team with a 23.6% target share. Was impressive en route to 6-95-0 line. Also handles most punt return duties.
WR5 Sammie Coates
Selected 3rd round, 18th overall in XFL Draft. Third-round pick of Steelers in 2015 produced just 29 catches in four NFL seasons. Was massively disappointing rotational player through four XFL weeks, logging a 6-61-0 line on 19 targets. Coates sunk to just 48.3% of the snaps in Week 3 while Sam Mobley was in on 56%. In Week 4, Coates played 46% and Mobley 55%. Missed Week 5 with a hamstring injury. Limited in practice on Tuesday and Wednesday for Week 6.
WR6 Ryheem Malone
Established himself as primary slot backup by playing on 32-of-75 snaps in Week 5. It’s unclear if that was due to Kahlil Lewis’ groin injury or if Houston will rotate those two going forward.
WR7 Blake Jackson
A backup slot behind Holley and Lewis. Played on 17-of-65 snaps in Week 4 and 16-of-75 in Week 5.
WR8 Taivon Jacobs
Added with roster expansions on March 9th.
WR9 Ray Bolden
DNP in practice (foot) on Wednesday for Week 6.
