This is a very exciting week for ETR Golf. As you may or may not know, this week is the week of the FGWC Final Round, where ETR has a few different subscribers representing live from Detroit. Last year, Todd (aka TYA) took first at the FGWC, but unfortunately he will not be defending his title. Instead, various Discord personalities will be there vying for the top spot, and our very own Cody Main will be in attendance as well to cheer the crew on. It should be an awesome week in the DFS streets, and here’s to hoping there’s a sweat on Sunday. Before we go full Rocket Mortgage, let’s of course recap the week prior.
Travelers Championship – Recap
Well, it was definitely a Travelers to forget for me this year, as I had probably one of my worst weeks in the past couple of months. This was mostly due to my flag plant of Max Homa, who was playing so poorly he literally started crying in the middle of the second round. I also was crying at that point, knowing my week was pretty much over. This was a far cry from my flag plant of the winner, Keegan Bradley, last year, and likely will be a far cry from the enjoyment I’ll be getting next year when you all see Sky in a costume of the Discord’s choice at this event. Let’s take a look at the winning Sand Trap lineup to see if we can learn anything:
- It featured a 12/8/7/7/7/6 build, fully leaning into a top-heavy Scottie Scheffler lineup and skipping both the $9K and $10K ranges. I feel a bit vindicated by this, as last week I advised to be overweight on Scottie while leaning into the low-owned $7K range, which this lineup did with Sungjae Im and Shane Lowry. While those two were not players I targeted heavily, I would advise you all to remember that a flag plant is just a singular player pick. Please make sure you are understanding the reasoning behind the flag plant and applying those concepts to your builds. You’ll be better for it!
- The lineup had a cumulative ownership of ~80%, smack in the middle of the 70-90% target I normally have for these small-field signature events. Thankfully, we won’t be dealing with any more of these events this year other than the BMW Championship as part of the end-of-year schedule. I can live with that.
Overall, I don’t think I played too poorly. I peppered my MME set with a lot of Scottie builds that either featured a Xander/Aberg pairing with him, or fully skipped the $8Ks and $9Ks to lean into the $7Ks. Guys like Wyndham Clark put up some enticing scores in this range. I think this was the right way to approach the week given the layout.
