Happy Friday! I’m still a little under the weather, but I’m feeling better this morning. Today’s matchups will be a little shorter, but I’ll be on the Injury Show.
New Orleans Pelicans at Charlotte Hornets
Team Totals: Pelicans 119.5
Injury Report: Zion Williamson (Q, ankle), P.J. Washington (Q, shoulder), Mark Williams (D, back)
Pelicans projected starters: C.J. McCollum, Herb Jones, Brandon Ingram, Zion Williamson, Jonas Valanciunas
Hornets projected starters: Terry Rozier, Brandon Miller, Gordon Hayward, Miles Bridges, Nick Richards
Green quotes: Said Zion is day-to-day, said BI dominated the game, said Trey has unlimited range and Naji was huge for them with “simple play after simple play”, said his guys are better when they are angry, said they will look at Dyson starting again, said they got off to a bad start so they went to Trey quickly.
Clifford quotes: Talked about turnovers again and said they were careless.
Stats and Notes:
*Willie Green calling Zion day-to-day could mean he misses another game here, and the Pelicans probably don’t need him anyway. If he misses, it’s pretty safe to think that Trey Murphy starts after Green basically admitted that he screwed up starting Dyson Daniels. There’s not much of a difference defensively when Zion sits, but we’ve seen them be a little more vulnerable to 3-pointers. The Pelicans are one of the bigger C&S funnels with the eighth-most points on those, and teams continue to shoot well around the basket against them. They have moved to the highest 3-point funnel in the league at 41.5% of shots. The Hornets can’t stop anyone these days at 28th overall, and they’re still one of the biggest rim funnels at the sixth-most points allowed. The Hornets do have the highest trap possessions allowed in the NBA, and we’ve seen them be more aggressive with primary handlers.
Great matchups: Zion Williamson, Jonas Valanciunas
Good matchups: Miles Bridges, Brandon Ingram
Bad matchups: Terry Rozier
