If your season-long fantasy team is struggling: There’s still plenty of time to right the ship and make moves to put yourself in a position to make the playoffs. If you started out hot: Now’s the perfect time to get that one last piece to put you over the top.
Trading is a critical component of optimizing your fantasy football team. Today, we’ll walk through eight pairs of similarly ranked players and nominate one as a buy candidate and another as a player to sell. This ideally serves as inspiration for exact trades you can make, but it’s also more general advice on players we believe are valued too high or too low.
BUY MARQUISE BROWN, SELL GEORGE PICKENS
Brown has a 27.0% target share this season but has struggled with efficiency (6.3 yards per target) with Josh Dobbs under center. Getting Kyler Murray back in a few weeks gives Brown immense late-season upside.
Meanwhile, Pickens has posted at least a 25% target share in three of four games with Diontae Johnson out (and at least 21.4% each game), but both Johnson and Pat Freiermuth will be back in Week 7. Pickens could easily go back to the one-trick deep-threat pony he was before Johnson got hurt.
BUY DEVONTA SMITH, SELL DK METCALF
Smith has struggled to earn targets this season at the rate we are used to, but he has such an extended history of being a target monster that we are unmoved by his recent cold streak. The Eagles’ passing game is one of the best (and most concentrated) in the league, and it seems like only a matter of time before Smith finds his groove.
Metcalf has also not earned as many targets as expected, plus he’s in a worse passing offense and has Jaxon Smith-Njigba potentially ascending into a more voluminous role as his rookie season progresses.
BUY MICHAEL PITTMAN, SELL D.J. MOORE
