Welcome to the Week 15 edition of Snaps & Pace, where we examine trends in play volume and game pace. It is meant to be a 30,000-foot view of upcoming contests, with the goal of identifying which matchups will – and which will not – be played on fertile fantasy soil. For a primer on why this is important, click here.
Coming off of a touchdown-filled Week 14, the season’s end is in sight. It was the highest-scoring week in two months with 759 points, thanks to the Ravens and Browns piling them up on Monday night. Now, the week before Christmas offers an appetite whetting two-game Saturday slate, and no shortage of matchups with elevated pace and play-volume potential. There’s plenty to get to, so let’s dive in.
Up In Pace
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Atlanta Falcons
The Bucs head to Atlanta for what will be the season’s final divisional matchup between rivals who have yet to face each other this year. Their two meetings in 2019 produced outsized point totals (50, 57), and insane combined play tallies (133, 148). Tampa Bay is coming off of a game in which Minnesota played keep-away, but succeeded only in dominating the clock (39:03 to 20:57). For several reasons, not the least of which is Atlanta doesn’t have the wherewithal to incessantly pound the Bucs’ run defense, the scoring and play output from this matchup will almost certainly be more to our liking.
