Thursday, Aug. 7 is the WNBA trade deadline. We are going to discuss likely trade candidates and how those deals might affect their respective team’s depth chart and rotations going forward.

Washington Mystics – Shakira Austin and Aaliyah Edwards

Having just traded star Brittney Sykes on Tuesday, Washington co-star Shakira Austin could be on the move as well. She has rebounded well from an injury-plagued 2024 to show that she is both healthy and effective. There are plenty of teams that could use an upgrade at center, including the Mercury, Aces, and Valkyries. Aaliyah Edwards is another player whose name has been mentioned in trade talks. She was seen as a building block for the future just a year ago, but the emergence of rookies Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen has really blocked her playing time this season. There is a strong possibility that either Edwards will be moved to a situation where her game can flourish, or the Mystics will trade other frontcourt mates to enable more playing time for Edwards. Regardless, this is a crowded frontcourt, with all of Austin, Edwards, Iriafen, Stefanie Dolson, and Emily Engstler vying for minutes. I would expect this situation to be less cluttered after the deadline, allowing for better fantasy opportunities for all those that remain.
