Passing Game Outlook
Michael Penix Jr. is Atlanta’s clear QB1 entering 2025 after taking over the reins from Kirk Cousins in Week 16 of his rookie season. Penix, the Falcons’ eighth overall selection last year, flashed his elite arm talent in his three starts, producing 246 passing yards per game and scoring 96 total points in those outings. It wasn’t all rosy for Penix, though, as he posted just a 58% completion rate and 3:3 TD-to-INT ratio against three of the league’s weakest defenses. A full offseason of starter reps and continuity within Atlanta’s offense set up Penix to hit the ground running in his sophomore season. Penix’s fantasy value will largely come from his effectiveness as a thrower, as he scrambled just four times on 108 dropbacks in his three starts, good for a 3.7% scramble rate. That’s in line with someone like Joe Burrow (3.5% career) yet above the immobile Jared Goff (2.3% career), but well behind QBs who provide weekly rushing output. Given his reliance on passing to produce fantasy results, Penix is a more enticing best ball selection in stacks with Drake London and Co. He falls outside of Evan Silva’s Top 150 and is the QB21 in our projection-based rankings.
