We’re going to get a lot of stuff wrong, but sifting through usage metrics can help us work through what matters and what doesn’t. That’s the goal of this article: to break down the most actionable takeaways from each week in a concise, numbers-filled format and work through what’s important. Let’s get right to it:
1. Josh Jacobs returned on Thanksgiving and handled 17 of 21 running back carries for Green Bay, while Emanuel Wilson got the other four. Interestingly, Chris Brooks, who had fallen out of favor before Jacobs’ injury, was the primary third-down back, per PFF’s Nathan Jahnke, playing eight of nine third-down snaps and running 11 total routes. Brooks out-targeted Jacobs 2-1. We’ll see whether Jacobs regains the pass-down role next week after another long week to recover.
2. With Sam LaPorta and Brock Wright out, Ross Dwelley was the TE1 for the Lions, playing 74.6% of snaps and running 18 routes on 32 dropbacks. He caught one of three targets for three yards.
3. Amon-Ra St. Brown played just four snaps before spraining his ankle after getting rolled up on while blocking. With Kalif Raymond also out, Jameson Williams and Isaac TeSlaa predictably were the two full-time WRs on the outside, with Jamo running 31 routes on 32 dropbacks and TeSlaa at 30. Jamo also had a 37% target share. Practice squad call-up Tom Kennedy was the WR3 over Dominic Lovett (who didn’t play a snap) after ARSB’s injury. Kennedy ran 24 routes.
4. John FitzPatrick, who has led the Green Bay TE rotation for the past two games, was the TE3 this week with 24% of snaps. Josh Whyle out-routed Luke Musgrave 16-14, and each earned one target.
5. Isiah Pacheco returned in a limited role for Kansas City, playing 30.3% of snaps and recording only three carries compared to 14 for Kareem Hunt. Pacheco did fully practice leading up to Thanksgiving, but it was still his first game back and a short week. We’ll see in Week 14 whether Hunt has actually grabbed hold of this backfield or if K.C. was just easing Pacheco back in off the injury.
