If it wasn’t already, we have officially entered silly season on the PGA Tour as we rip off five straight weeks to close out the 2026 golf season. The big guns who had showed up before the Presidents Cup or wanted to take in the no-cut Baycurrent Championship in Japan are no longer going to be a regular occurrence, so get ready to learn $9,700 Kevin Roy for the rest of the year. That’s of course fine by me, as this level of field doesn’t pique the interest at all from the public, but if we can keep filling these contest sizes, then $50K to first is plenty to battle over when a huge chunk of these fields are unrecognizable to the common DFS player.
The Bermuda Championship specifically has been the outlier of them all in the fall swing, where over half the winners sported 100/1 or greater on the odds boards. It’s been pure cinema, too, at Port Royal when the winds are whipping, especially last year when Adam Schenk was hitting bullet irons and putting one-handed to hold onto his win at -12. That was half of the winning score that Camilo Villegas came in at in 2023, and by the looks of the forecast, we’ve got plenty of winds to be blowing this week, especially on Sunday. So I’ll be locked in to what should be an electric viewing experience this weekend, with the hopes we can take down some big prizes together!
Kihei Akina, $7,300 – It’s only fitting to kick off the Bermuda Value Report with Kihei Akina, an amateur out of BYU who finished top 10 in the Utah Championship to earn his spot in this week’s field. Akina has been featured in this piece in his previous 2025 starts that did not go well, but he took a massive leap forward with his play this season. Two wins, a runner-up in the Big 12 championship, and a top 10 at NCAAs earned him a spot on the Walker Cup team, and he was also 3/4 in made cuts on his sponsor’s exemptions. The one that stood out specifically was his T16 in March at the Puerto Rico Open, before his breakout at BYU. With coastal, windy elements playing a factor as always in Bermuda, that experience at the PRO will be very beneficial. Akina has a shot to take the same PGA Tour Accelerated route that Jackson Koivun recently did, and with his salary bump, the hope is we get him low-owned again before the mainstream catches up.
