Hawks projected starters: C.J. McCollum, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Dyson Daniels, Jalen Johnson, Onyeka Okongwu
Wizards projected starters: Trae Young, AJ Dybantsa, Kyshawn George, Anthony Davis, Alex Sarr
Snyder quotes: Said it was a good win to get it over the short-handed IND team, said they were not good at the rim again, said they missed a lot of layups against the Pacers, said NAW is still bringing it on the defensive end, said McCollum was finding NAW in the second half, said they really have to play better with their paint defense.
Keefe quotes: Said they were flying around on defense and they got way better in the second half, said Trae’s offense was contagious and everyone was moving well out there, said Tre Johnson made some good defensive plays, said the AD-Trae two-man game allows them to get to a lot of stuff on offense, said Dybantsa can be a one-man fast break when he gets rebounds.
Stats and Notes:
*The Hawks have been average on defense, but they are getting demolished inside as one of the biggest rim funnels to start the year. They’re not giving up off-ball scoring, and their transition defense has been solid, too. It’s just bigs cooking them more often than not. They’re actually rebounding OK, too. The Wizards’ defense has been one of the best surprises of the year, ranking eighth overall (fifth in the halfcourt). They’ve not been putting teams on the line, but their schedule has been crazy soft for by far the worst OSOS in the league (offensive strength of schedule, per Dunks and 3s; 27th on DSOS). The Wizards have been giving up some 3-point volume, and they’ve been beat on the ball a good bit. They’re allowing the most wide-open 3PAs per game, and the Hawks have been able to get up some treys (Hawks giving up the fewest wide-open treys). These teams will have very different attacking styles.
Great matchups: Anthony Davis, Nickeil Alexander-Walker
Good matchups: C.J. McCollum, Dyson Daniels
Bad matchups: Jalen Johnson, Kyshawn George, AJ Dybantsa
Philadelphia 76ers at Detroit Pistons
Team Totals: 76ers 109.5, Pistons 110.5
Injury Report: Dominick Barlow (O, back), Ariel Hukporti (O, Achilles), Jalen Duren (O, hamstring), Isaiah Joe (O, hip)
76ers projected starters: Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, Jaylen Brown, Dean Wade, Joel Embiid
Pistons projected starters: Cade Cunningham, Duncan Robinson, Ausar Thompson, John Collins, Paul Reed
Nurse quotes: Said they are just trying to manage Embiid’s foot injury, said LeBron is having fun this year, said Brown has been fitting in better and he’s a winner, said they can go to Embiid in the paint more, said they want to live more out of the Embiid-Maxey two-man game.
Bickerstaff quotes: Said they are defending at a very high level and it makes them tough to beat, said Cade was picking his spots and he’s one of the best leaders he’s ever seen, said the guys having another year under their belts is why their defense is better.
Stats and Notes:
*One of the best games of the day, but not from a DFS environment standpoint. The Pistons are the league’s best defense, while the 76ers are right behind them at third (first in halfcourt defense). The Pistons haven’t been as great at limiting O-boards, and their paint defense is just solid so far this year, but they’ve been incredible on the ball to start the season. They’ve been an above-average transition defense, so the 76ers are really going to have to find some jump shots in Detroit tonight. Philadelphia has been so strong on defense because they’ve been limiting off-ball threes to start the year with the lowest spot-up points allowed per game. The 76ers have been a little vulnerable in transition, and they’ve had some bad paint defensive numbers over the years. It should set up pretty well for Cade (went for 26/8/8 against them earlier this year) and Tyrese Maxey (29/5/4). I think Ausar Thompson is guarding Jaylen Brown. Joel Embiid did have a limit on him last game, so he might have one again.
Great matchups: Tyrese Maxey, Cade Cunningham
Good matchups: Joel Embiid, Ausar Thompson
Bad matchups: Jaylen Brown, Paul Reed
