Game 4s! Before getting to this slate, it’s important to remember that the late game has some massive garbage-time risk. Although, the Warriors are going to score a ton of points in the first three quarters.
Boston Celtics at Milwaukee Bucks
Team Totals: Celtics 105.8, Bucks 106.8
Injury Report: Khris Middleton (O, knee)
Celtics projected starters: Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Al Horford, Robert Williams
Bucks projected starters: Jrue Holiday, Grayson Allen, Wes Matthews, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Brook Lopez
Udoka quotes: Said turnovers in the third quarter were a big issue, said their offense was shooting themselves in the foot (mentioned third quarter again), said it was clear Smart was going up with it and it was a “missed call” on the late 3-pointer, said they have to do a better job showing a crowd, said they want to attack the Milwaukee bigs a lot, said they have to get out and run more with the way the Bucks want to crash the glass, said Robert Williams was a little banged up but he’s OK, said the complaining to the refs was a problem for them.
Budenholzer quotes: Said they were not trying to foul Marcus Smart at the end, said Giannis takes on so much physicality and he is built for it, said he thought the starting lineup was good and they can run DHO, etc. with Grayson Allen, said he liked Bobby Portis off the bench.
Stats and Notes:
*The defense in this series has been incredible. The Bucks have nothing in the halfcourt going at just an 80.5 O rating while the Celtics aren’t far behind at 87.2. They’re almost identical in volume in the halfcourt while the Bucks have been rebounding better. Boston continues to struggle in transition, as well. In the last game, the Bucks were limited to just 14 wide-open 3-pointers while the Celtics ran very unlucky at 4-of-17 wide-open treys. The Celtics were executing their game plan pretty well, so they really just needed to knock down shots.
*Jayson Tatum went 1-of-9 uncontested in Game 3. The Celtics were 23-of-53 on uncontested shots (87 total shots, 61%) while the Bucks were 16-of-35 on uncontested shots (35%). His ball-handling is up with 56 frontcourt touches per game in this series, so a bounce-back game could be huge. Props to Wesley Matthews and Jrue Holiday, but it feels like Tatum can go off.
