Identifying undervalued players and sleepers depends a lot on your league and the default platform. ESPN hasn’t even put the rookies in their default ranks yet, so I’m going off of Yahoo! here as the measuring stick on where I think the value is. The undervalued guys are not “sleepers” and they’ll be considered as guys you can take after Round 3. Generally, the undervalued guys are going to be guys I have a half-round to two rounds ahead of where they might go.
Note: I’ll cover ESPN rankings with a breakdown after the NBA media days on Sept. 30.
Immanuel Quickley (G, Toronto) – We saw IQ put up some strong numbers with the Raptors to the tune of 19/5/7 in 33.3 minutes. Sure, some of that was while the Raptors were short-handed as they were losing games to try to hold their pick, but he didn’t play his best, either. As a Knick last year, Quickley was carving up defenses at 1.16 PPP on PNR handler plays to rank first in the league on that play (min. 100 poss., 128 quals). He cooled off a lot there at 0.86 PPP as a Raptor — IQ was about 0.10 PPP ahead of that number in each of his previous years, too. If he’s close to how he was as a Knick, that would boost him a decent bit in FG%. Plus, playing off-ball wouldn’t be a bad thing, either. He was at a 62.9 eFG% as a C&S Raptor (had been 60+ percentile in previous two years). We should get some huge minutes from him as the lead handler. Don’t forget: IQ was the best piece they got from the OG Anunoby deal.
