Thursday Night Football
San Francisco @ L.A. Rams
Team Totals: Rams 26.5, 49ers 20
I’m betting the 49ers start Mac Jones on Thursday night after Brock Purdy played one of the worst games of his career in Week 4’s loss to Jacksonville, aggravating his toe injury in the process. Whoever it may be, San Francisco’s Week 5 signal-caller is set up to struggle on a short week against a fierce Rams defensive front with top WRs Jauan Jennings (ankle, rib) and Ricky Pearsall (PCL) far short of 100%, George Kittle (hamstring, I.R.) still weeks away, and Brandon Aiyuk (ACL, PUP) “not close” to returning, per GM John Lynch. Tee up L.A.’s D/ST. … Regardless of position, Christian McCaffrey ranks No. 2 in the NFL in targets (43), No. 3 in catches (31), and No. 8 in receiving yards (305). Ignore CMC’s rushing stats, and he would rank No. 9 overall in PPR points among wide receivers. McCaffrey’s versatile usage and extraordinary volume render him fantasy’s most matchup-proof running back. … On a short week, there is reason to believe the 49ers could build a few more packages than usual into the game plan for Brian Robinson Jr., giving him some single-game DFS appeal.
