Arizona @ Carolina
Team Totals: Cardinals 27.5, Panthers 24
In order to combat Kyler Murray’s Iversonian scrambling skills, opponents have been changing coverage tactics from less man to more zone; since the beginning of 2019, no NFL offense has faced zone (70%) more than Arizona. While zone schemes sometimes hinder Murray’s rushing stats by keeping defenders’ faces toward the quarterback, Sports Info Solutions has charted Murray with a spike from 6.0 yards per pass attempt versus man to 8.1 versus zone, and a positive play rate jump from 44% to 50%. Since the Panthers rank No. 2 in the NFL in zone-coverage rate (83%), I like Murray’s chances of rebounding from last week’s three-pick loss to Detroit for perhaps his best passing day of the year. … With touch counts of 18, 22, and 19 but only one touchdown and zero 100 total-yardage games, Kenyan Drake remains in buy-low position ahead of Sunday’s optimal draw. The Cardinals are favored by more than a field goal – setting up run-friendly script – while Carolina has been gutted for a combined 69/345/7 (5.0 YPC) rushing line and a league-high 32 catches by enemy backs.
