The Players Championship! Also known as the fifth major, if you ask PGA Tour HQ, The Players is an awesome golf tournament that brings one of the best fields in golf every year to TPC Sawgrass. While the field has been reduced from 150 to 123 this year, it will still be one of the strongest we see all year, with 47 of the top 50 in the world in attendance.
The Course:
A PGA Tour staple, TPC Sawgrass will host The Players for the 45th consecutive year in 2026 and is set to play as a 7,352-yard par 72 with four par 3s, four par 5s, and 10 par 4s. As has become trendy in recent years, TPC will feature overseed from tee to green with a rye/fescue overseed on tees, fairways, and rough and a poa overseed on the greens.
Sawgrass is one of the most iconic venues on the PGA Tour. A classic Pete Dye layout, it challenges players with hazards, angles, and uncomfortable golf shots throughout all 18 holes. With hazards in play on 17 of the 18 holes, often both off the tee and on approach, it’s no surprise that Sawgrass ranks in the top 10 in penalty rate on the PGA Tour since 2019. Similar to last week at Bay Hill, penalty areas are not the only trouble at Sawgrass, as the rough is going to be grown up to four inches to start the week, and playing from it to small greens surrounded by hazards is a tall task.
