First-year HC Dave Canales singlehandedly revived Geno Smith as Seattle’s QBs coach in 2022 and Baker Mayfield as the Bucs’ offensive coordinator last year; his toughest task lies ahead in saving 2023 No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young, who averaged a league-low 6.2 yards per attempt from a clean pocket under multiple coaching staffs. Veteran guards Robert Hunt (signed to a five-year, $100 million contract in free agency) and Damien Lewis (four years, $53 million) at the very least fortify the interior of Brandon Thorn’s No. 23 O-Line. Given the rest of Carolina’s upgrades on offense (see below), I’m (gulp) comfortable waiting for Young as my second quarterback in the seventh round (!) of Superflex leagues.
