What an odd event the CJ Cup Byron Nelson is, as TPC Craig Ranch did not show a single bit of defense even after the $25 million renovation. Now, one -30 result doesn’t mean the course itself couldn’t have drastic improvements, but with almost zero wind and the course being a bit soggy from the rains, there was simply nothing the setup could do to challenge the talent on Tour. That’s not to take away from Wyndham Clark’s win, his first since 2024, but this win was a bit different than his profile was when he picked up a major championship. Wyndham’s game has now been built around his approach play versus power, and despite a lack of success early in 2026, the iron game was always in there and just needed a matching putter to get back to the winner’s circle. Him winning at $8,800 and Si Woo Kim‘s runner-up finish at $9,900 left almost zero chance for Scottie Scheffler lineups to get there at $14,800. It was a unique pricing structure that really forced the question on builds, which I appreciated in an event that may lack juice from an on-course perspective.

Well, I’m facing the music on the week that was for DFS at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, and boy, was it ugly. I sure am thankful for Zach Bauchou, who prevented the bagel in a big way last week. Focusing on him, it was awesome to see it click massively for his best finish of 2026. Bauchou has been a constant topic in the AMA this season, as he’s shown many flashes in 18-hole spurts without any top finishes. To do so at just 4% in a weak field was a great opportunity to cash in on, and I saw that he was a staple in a handful of top ETR lineups on the week. From the horrific side of things, each of the other five players disappointed. I, of course, was leaning into speculation with the two amateurs, Preston Stout and William Sides, but I really did think the prowess from Stout’s historic college career could carry over to the low-scoring setup. Now, Sides did have an awesome Round 2 and is going to go directly to the KFT later this summer, so it will be fun to keep tabs on him. Hayden Springer was well in the mix via birdies to make the weekend, but way too many mistakes were made when they couldn’t be afforded with a six-under-par cut line. Adrien Dumont de Chassart didn’t even show a fraction of life, while Nick Dunlap couldn’t muster enough in the second round despite the 65 to overcome his over-par opening round.
Now we get a much-needed flip forward to the Charles Schwab Challenge, which brings about one of the more unique courses we get on the PGA Tour in Colonial Country Club. It’s as historic as they come, with recent renovations making it play even more difficult, especially with how much it limits distance. These styles of courses, like Harbour Town and Sedgefield Country Club, open up the field a bit, especially in the value range, as power is severely limited with how tight this track plays. We’ve pulled a decent high end of the field, too, and although DraftKings left Ludvig Aberg a bit too cheap, it does open up some stud-heavy rosters that don’t always dip into the $6K range. We can use that to our advantage here, as ownership should be held in check down the board, so let’s cash in in a big way!
