Welcome to the Week 11 edition of Snaps & Pace, where we examine trends in play volume and game pace. It is meant to be a 30,000-foot view of upcoming contests, with the goal of identifying which matchups will – and which will not – be played on fertile fantasy soil. For a primer on why this is important, click here.

Week 10 was lower scoring than projected by Vegas point totals, and it was slower paced than we’ve become used to. Week 11 looks like maybe we should get used to it. Once we get past a fun Thursday night, there is exactly one matchup featuring teams ranked in the top 17 in situation-neutral pace. It is not exactly a recipe for Main Slate play volume, but we follow the schedule maker through thick and thin.

Up In Pace

Cincinnati Bengals at Washington Football Team

The Bengals again played quickly on Sunday, but it was mostly “hurry up and punt” against PFF’s top-graded defense. They posted the fastest situation-neutral snaps pace of Week 10, and Cincinnati ranks fifth fastest during the last month (via the RotoViz Pace App). For the season, they operate at the seventh-quickest pace and Bengals games average the fourth-most combined plays. Only the Chargers and, for now, the Cowboys produce more plays per game. It isn’t always pretty when they play a high-quality defense, but there is no shortage of volume in their contests.
