I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend! I had to travel yesterday, so I didn’t have enough time to hit all the details for today’s NBA Matchups. We’ll talk through more of it on the shows today.
ATL @ DET | CLE @ IND | MIL @ WAS | CHA @ BKN | LAC @ MIA | CHI @ ORL | DAL @ DEN | HOU @ UTA | PHX @ LAL
Atlanta Hawks (back end) at Detroit Pistons
Team Totals: Hawks 112.3, Pistons 121.8
Injury Report: Duncan Robinson (Q, ankle), Caris LeVert (Q, knee), Jalen Duren (P, leg), Hawks on a B2B
Hawks projected starters: Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Dyson Daniels, Zaccharie Risacher, Jalen Johnson, Onyeka Okongwu
Pistons projected starters: Cade Cunningham, Duncan Robinson, Ausar Thompson, Tobias Harris, Jalen Duren
Snyder quotes: Said the 2-OT win was more about perseverance than poise, said they turned the ball over and didn’t rebound which have been two big issues for them this year, said Jalen Johnson is making quick decisions and he’s capable of making the right reads, said Johnson can learn from his mistakes and doesn’t let it bother him.
Bickerstaff quotes: Said the guys were worn down from the B2B (didn’t get in until 4:00 a.m., played a Cup game the day before), said they know Stewart is reliable for them, said Ivey played his best game on Saturday, said Duncan Robinson did all the right things to help the team (nothing about his injury).
Stats and Notes:
*The Hawks had a 2-OT thriller in Philly last night, and it’ll be interesting to see if they sit people out. The Hawks’ offense is starting to turn the corner a bit, but they get a tough matchup against an excellent paint defense in Detroit. The Hawks like to score in the paint with the fifth-most points down there, and they love to run with the fourth-most transition points. That’s been the biggest weakness for the Pistons with the sixth-most transition points allowed. When the Pistons have the ball, it should be pretty easy for them against a dead-tired Hawks team. Plus, the Hawks were already one of the worst teams at keeping teams off the boards, and they’re a below-average paint team. Lastly, I think Ausar Thompson gets the Jalen Johnson matchup, but the Pistons haven’t been putting him on the top guy every time these days.
Great matchups: Jalen Duren, Cade Cunningham
Good matchups: Nickeil Alexander-Walker
Bad matchups: Jalen Johnson, Onyeka Okongwu
Cleveland Cavaliers (back end) at Indiana Pacers
