Preseason DFS is a different beast. Unlike the regular season, our main job is to identify players who will get the most playing time. Of course, that’s easier said than done. Our team spends an unhealthy amount of time researching to come up with the Depth Chart Notes, Top Plays (below), and Live Show. Note that the Live Show will begin at 4:00 p.m. ET tonight.

For Showdown slates, please be sure to consult Cody Main’s article.

Quarterback

TIER 1

Kenny Pickett, Pittsburgh – We anticipate Kenny Pickett and the Steelers’ starters getting roughly a half tonight, which certainly puts the second-year QB at the top of our interest list on Thursday’s two-gamer.

TIER 2

Tanner McKee, Philadelphia – Reports claim that Marcus Mariota is only expected to play a series or two, leaving the bulk of the game up to McKee. Through two preseason games, the sixth-round rookie is 20 of 38 for 295 yards and one touchdown. The Eagles are letting him air it out. It’s not clear how much clean-up time fourth-stringer Ian Book will take, but McKee should be clear for the lion’s share of QB reps.

TIER 3

Anthony Richardson, Indianapolis – While we don’t have too much information, we expect the Colts to split up their three QBs somewhat evenly tonight. If that is the case, getting upwards of a quarter + of the dynamic Richardson puts him firmly in play on a small slate.

Taylor Heinicke, Atlanta – We’re not expecting starter Desmond Ridder to see much action tonight, which leaves veteran high-end backup Taylor Heinicke as the Falcon QB we’d be interested in tonight. He will likely enter the game early on with better skill-position players available to him, and we know he can put up some points if he gets around two quarters. Third-stringer Logan Woodside should play the most of the group, but Heinicke’s floor is much higher even with fewer snaps.

TIER 4

Sam Ehlinger, Indianapolis
