Passing Game Outlook
Cincinnati’s offense is as pass-heavy as any in football, a sensible philosophy given the presence of Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins. The Bengals led the NFL in Pass Rate Over Expectation in 2024 with a +8.2% mark; they fell to fifth (+1.7%) last year with Burrow appearing in just eight games, but they posted at least a +5% PROE in five of seven games with Burrow playing the majority of snaps. Burrow’s scramble rates have bottomed out at 3.1% over the last two years combined, making him practically a zero in the ground game. Still, his passing efficiency, combined with Cincinnati’s league-leading pass tilt, gives him a high ceiling at the quarterback position. However, the lack of rushing makes him a less appealing option than a dual-threat playmaker like Jayden Daniels.
Burrow suffered a Grade 3 turf toe in Week 2 last year, underwent surgery for it a week later, and opted to return late in the season despite the Bengals’ playoff hopes being all but gone by that point. Burrow has missed 16 games over the past three seasons combined, but he’s averaging 268.5 passing yards per game when playing at least 75% of snaps during that stretch.
