Jump to Quarterback, Running Back, Wide Receiver, Tight End positions.

Head Coach

HC Winston Moss
First-time head coach. Spent 2007-18 with Mike McCarthy as linebackers coach and assistant head coach for Packers.

Offensive Coordinator

OC Norm Chow
Been coaching offense in college and NFL since 1970. Most successfully as Pete Carroll’s OC at Southern Cal from 2001-04, when he had Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart. Typically operates a pass-centric scheme.

Quarterback

QB1 Josh Johnson
Has started 12 NFL games. In 597 career NFL snaps, has rushed 67-394-1. Best 40-yard dash (4.53) and vertical jump of any QB in 2008 combine. Has been very aggressive throwing vertically in XFL, averaging a league-best 8.1 yards per attempt. Hamstring looked healthier in Week 5 as he rushed seven times for 19 yards. We suspect better rushing lines are ahead.
QB2 Charles Kanoff
Played at Princeton from 2013-17. Traded from New York to Los Angeles for Luis Perez on Jan. 19. Started in place of Josh Johnson (hamstring) in Week 1 and was competent, going 21-of-40 for 214 yards with one TD, one INT and a 10-yard rushing TD.
QB3 Jalan McClendon
Wasn’t among top-80 picks in XFL Draft. Big red flag that he fell behind Charles Kanoff even though Kanoff was only with the team for a couple of weeks before Week 1.

Running Back

RB1 Martez Carter
Selected 7th round, 56th overall in XFL Draft. Has most juice in LA’s crowded backfield, but oddly got just five carries and two targets while playing on 17-of-68 snaps in Week 5. Limited in practice (hip) on Wednesday for Week 6.
RB2 DuJuan Harris
Harris has been on nine different NFL teams since 2011. Now 31 years old. Very little juice, but still led backfield in Week 5 by playing on 29-of-68 snaps. Limited in practice (ankle) on Wednesday for Week 6.
RB3 Larry Rose III
Rose was selected 5th round, 40th overall in XFL Draft. Caught eye-opening 133 balls at New Mexico State from 2014-17. But role in LA is poor as he hasn’t topped six touches in a game all year
RB4 Winston Dimel
Dimel was added to active roster on Feb. 25. Played 12 snaps in Week 5, adding to a 4-man committee. Limited in practice (hip) on Wednesday for Week 6.
RB5 Elijah Hood
Selected 1st round, 8th overall in XFL Draft. Averaged 6.0 YPC on 430 carries at North Carolina from 2014-16. Was the clear feature back in Week 1, playing on 70% of the snaps and handling 63% of the RB touches. In Week 2 Hood played on 64% of the snaps and handled 68% of the RB touches. Role has devolved since then sharp. Was a healthy scratch in Week 5.
RB6 Terrell Alex
Added with roster expansions on March 9th.

Wide Receiver

WR1 Nelson Spruce
Selected 3rd round, 24th overall in XFL Draft. Weak athletic measurables, but torched the Pac-12 for 195 catches in his final two seasons at Colorado (2014-15). Spruce was also among the AAF’s best wideouts last spring, ranking 2nd in catches and fifth in yards. Was XFL’s best WR through first three weeks. Missed Weeks 4 and 5 with a knee injury. Upgraded to limited in practice on Wednesday for Week 6.
WR2 Tre McBride
Selected 2nd round, 16th overall in XFL Draft by DC. Was traded to Los Angeles for Rashad Ross on January 12. A favorite of the Draftnik community in 2015, McBride ran a 4.41 at 6’0/210 at his Combine. Made his XFL debut in Week 3 and went off for 5-109-2 on just 16 snaps and 11 routes. With Nelson Spruce (knee) out in Week 4, McBride played on 60-of-62 snaps and went off again — this time 8-127-1. In Week 5, McBride missed time with a rib issue but still went 3-35-1 and added a 2-point conversion. Limited in practice (rib) on Wednesday for Week 6.
WR3 Jordan Smallwood
NFL-style frame at 6’2/219, ran 4.53 at his Oklahoma Pro Day in 2018. With Nelson Spruce (knee) inactive last two weeks, Smallwood has played on 92-of-130 snaps (70.7%) and seen 13 targets. DNP in practice (ankle) on Wednesday for Week 6.
WR4 Saeed Blacknall
Wasn’t among top-80 picks in XFL Draft. Disappointed at Penn State, where he finished his four-year career with just 50 catches. Moved ahead of Adonis Jennings in Week 5, playing on 55-of-68 snaps and leading the team with a 18.9% target share. LImited in practice (thigh) on Wednesday for Week 6.
WR5 Adonis Jennings
Wasn’t among top-80 picks in XFL Draft. 6’2/203 out of Temple, where he went 42-742-7 as a senior in 2017. Was solid in AAF last spring, posting 17-210-0 in eight games for the Salt Lake Stallions. Even with Nelson Spruce (knee) out and Kermit Whitfield cut, Jennings’ poor play sunk him to just eight snaps played in Week 5.
WR6 Jalen Greene
Came off the bench for 15 snaps in Week 5.
WR7
WR8

 Tight End

TE1 De’Quan Hampton
With Brandon Barnes lost for season in Week 5, Hampton takes over as primary tight end.
TE2 Ryan O’Malley
Added with roster expansions on March 9th

Injury Report

IR Brandon Barnes (TE)
Selected 4th round, 25th overall in XFL Draft. Caught 29 balls in 38 college games for Alabama State. Went 9-75-0 for the Memphis Express in AAF last spring. Was lost for season in Week 5.
